Happy Birthday Bobby McFerrin
Today is Bobby McFerrin’s 59th birthday. To honor that, I’ve found several youtube clips with him and saxophonist Michael Brecker (whose birthday is later this month).

As musicians, we almost always have to drive to the gig. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen during these travels that make the gig almost worthless. This past Sunday, I had such an experience.
Every Sunday, I play at the Christian Faith Fellowship Church (CFFC) of Racine. My good friend Jeremy Scott organizes the music there. Occasionally we take the praise band on the road and this past Sunday evening, we played at a CFFC in Zion, Illinois. I drove down there with my friend Nate, who plays trumpet with the group. The gig went fine, but on the way back we hit a snag. Turing on the on ramp to highway 41 I heard a very loud THUNK like I hit a pothole or something. I was not driving out of control; it was dark and hard to see the defects in the road. A few moments later we started hearing a sound as if a tire was out of air. Sure enough, hitting the pothole caused my my front passenger side tire to pop. Thankfully, Nate and I were able to put on the spare tire quickly, as it was dark out and very cold. Unfortunately at the end of the tire change, the jack bent and broke as well. I was able to get a new tire, but after all of that, I only made $1.36 on my gigs that day. And I haven’t even purchased a new jack yet.
